Rich Rocky Mountain History

The area is rich in Native American history. The Ute, Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes lived among the array of streams near Pike's Peak. The area known as The Garden of the Gods was home to many of them. When settlers began moving West, they brought a strong military presence. In 1954, The United States Air Force Academy was built. Today, Colorado Springs is home to Fort Carson, Peterson Air Force Base, the U.S. Space Command, NORAD, Schriever Air Force Base and the United States Air Force Academy.
